History

In 1904 manufacturing operations for the Gillette Safety Razor Company began in South Boston, Massachusetts by founder King Camp Gillette.  Presently, this location is known as Gillette World Shaving Headquarters. The Andover Manufacturing Center opened in 1969.

Through these efforts, more than 40 local non-profit organizations benefitted from P&G grants.

Gillette World Shaving Headquarters

Gillette’s South Boston Manufacturing Center is located on South Boston’s Fort Point Channel. The facility celebrated its 110th anniversary in Fall of 2011. Many of our flagship premium shaving systems, including ProGlide, Fusion, Mach3 and Venus Razors are manufactured in South Boston.  South Boston is the headquarters for P&G’s Global Grooming Business, which includes Gillette, Venus, Braun and The Art of Shaving, including four of P&G’s billion dollar brands – Fusion, MACH3, Prestobarba/Blue and Gillette. The facility also includes a state of the art fitness center as well as an Art of Shaving Barbershop.

The multi-use campus houses: Manufacturing Center, Product Supply, Research & Development, Commercial Operations, Marketing, Finance, Shaving Technology Laboratories, Process & Engineering, and Office and Administrative space.  Located on the historic Fort Point Channel in Boston Harbor.

Economic Information: The South Boston facility adds over $300 million to the Massachusetts economy annually. This includes local payroll and benefits, purchases from suppliers for goods and services (e.g. raw materials, contractor services, packaging and office supplies) for use at this site and state and local taxes. 

Sustainability: The WSHQ is committed to sustainability and brings that commitment to life through the work of internal teams and our sustainability partnerships with our utility provider, the City, industry, local academia and local organizations. We have won several sustainability awards such as the EPA Regional Award, Excellence in Commuting Options, the Boston Mayor’s Green Business Award, Boston Bike Friendly Business Award and The Boston Business Innovation in Sustainability Award.

Andover Manufacturing Center: The factory opened in 1969 as a manufacturing and distribution center for the toiletries segment.  Current products include Gillette, Fusion, Foamy and Satin Care shave preps.
